Creative process

Before a jewel comes to life, there is an idea, an inspiration drawn from everyday life. A painting, a flower, an embroidery or a landscape can inspire the creation of a jewel. I always bring a little notebook with me, in which I sketch some first fragments of ideas. Then, I work on Powerpoint where I test colours, forms and combinations to create a piece that looks exactly like the one I conceived in my mind.

After that, I send the sketch to Joao’s workshop where it gets designed in 3D and printed in wax or resin, which enables to mould the gold cast.

The choice of gem-setting

We exclusively work with 18 karat gold, the noblest, strongest and shiniest alloy. We prefer yellow gold, because it highlights the brightness of precious stones, emeralds, sapphires and rubies. All our pieces can be ordered and crafted in white or pink gold.

On gold, stones may be positioned with different techniques of setting, to highlight the radiance and the form of the jewels.

The grain setting

We are particularly fond of the grain setting, because its small drops of gold are designed for perfect comfort and to merge into the stones. With this setting we can create gentle and delicate pieces, perfectly coating precious stones.

The claw setting

The claw setting holds stones with small gold prongs. This setting particularly allows the radiance of the stones to shine through, because they are more exposed to light. It is therefore the most used setting in jewellery-making. You will find a selection of claw setting jewels in our Gaia and Camélia collections.

The bezel setting

The bezel setting wraps the edges of stones, and gold borders the precious stones, which intensifies their colours. This technique allows us to work stones with more delicate colours.

Our precious stones

One of our Maison’s signatures is the choice for colourful gem-stones in our collections but not for white diamond. We prefer to choose colour palettes made up of the natural red of the ruby stone, emeralds’ brightness, sapphires’ deep colour…

We work with small precious stones, set as fine and delicate mosaics reflecting light like stained glass. Polished with thoroughness, these multifaceted stones require expertise and savoir-faire as the jewels are of exceptional quality.

Sapphire

Sapphire is well-known for its blue stones ranging from very light blue to the deepest blue. This stone is also harder than diamond, but we especially love it for its infinite and rainbow-colour palette, ranging from pink to yellow, or from purple to cognac.

Ruby

Ruby is the ultimate red stone, offering an infinite variety of shades. Vivid red rubies are the most desired. Formerly, Burmese people were not interested in pale pink rubies on the pretext that they were not mature enough. We love matching rubies to pink sapphires and emeralds, as it adds a shiny and modern touch to our creations.

Emerald

Each emerald is unique and owns what we call « jardins d’émeraude », that is to say visible inclusions that we may describe as mossy or garden-like. We love this stone because its shade magnificently contrasts with the colour of the skin, whatever your skin tone.

Tsavorite

This stone is named after the Tsavo lake in Kenya where the garnet is extracted (yet we also find it in Tanzania and Madagascar!). Even though it is less famous than sapphire and ruby, Tsavorite gemstone is absolutely charming and its rare, green colour with yellow tones harmoniously matches with yellow gold. This garnet possesses soothing and protective properties, and would even have the power to help its owner to find a soul mate…

Fine pearl

The pearl is born out of an incident : when a grain of stand sneaks into an oyster. A pure product of nature, the pearl is unique and timeless. We love it for its vintage style, which reminds of ancient jewellery that fascinates Sophie so much. Round, shiny and romantic, the pearl magnificently contrasts with the translucent appearance of gemstones.

Turquoise

These « small fragments of sky » as Native Americans call it, are extracted from deposits in Iran, Mexican or American deserts. Their unrivalled, intense and magnetic colour adds a little extra something to our jewels.
